The plan to reactivate Bogotá`s gastronomy industry made up of restaurants and cafes is underway. The strategy called ‘Bogotá a cielo abierto’ uses tactical urban planning, urban acupuncture, technology and the application of biosecurity measures to allow diners to enjoy restaurants during the pandemic.
Bogotá is considered a prominent destination for Gastro-Tourism around the world. One of its restaurants was included among the 2019 World´s 50 Best Restaurants ranking and several others among the 2019 Latin America´s Top 50 Restaurants.
However, the economic plunge generated by the Covid-19 crisis has especially affected the local restaurant and creative industries. As a response, the Bogotá Mayor's Office provided incentives and tax exemptions for this sector under its Marshall Plan policy.
Besides, ‘Bogotá a cielo abierto’ plans to intervene in 25 different areas of the city to enable restaurants to set up outdoor terraces. Each of these areas will be supervised by a manager chosen by the owners of the restaurants. This administrator will guarantee that the business under his responsibility will operate under strict protection measures and in compliance with the Mayors Office protocols.
The project will begin on September 3th and it will last until December 2020. This pilot strategy will operate weekly from Thursday to Sunday.
