Andres Santamaria Garrido, Director of the Bogota Tourism Institute (IDT), met with Carlos Romero, Director of Tourism Research at SEGITTUR in Madrid, Spain. SEGITTUR granted Bogota the accreditation as a Smart Tourist Destination in 2023.

During this meeting, key topics were discussed to transform Bogota into a powerhouse of smart tourism, emphasizing the five pillars of this model: Governance, promoting collaborative and effective leadership among tourism stakeholders; Innovation, fostering the adoption of new practices to enhance the tourist experience; Technology, implementing advanced solutions to optimize visitors' experiences; Sustainability, promoting responsible tourism with respect to the environment, the economy, and society; and finally, Accessibility, ensuring inclusion and universal access to tourism services.

For this certification, the Colombian capital achieved a compliance rate of 92.8% in governance, 81.3% in sustainability, 81.2% in accessibility, 77.9% in technology, and 86.5% in innovation, resulting in an overall average of 82.5%. This outstanding performance earned Bogota the Smart Tourist Destination certification.

This meeting, held within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), was of great significance in reaffirming Bogota's commitment to strengthening the city as a tourist attraction where the visitor's experience addresses the needs in technological infrastructure and innovation.

It's worth noting that Bogota received the DTI accreditation after bringing together over 90 public and private actors, training more than 1,200 students and entrepreneurs, creating the first accessible tourism network, and the first tourism quality system in Colombia.

The coordinated effort with SEGITTUR, a pioneering company in the management of innovation and tourism technologies, is strategic for Bogota's social and economic development.

This initiative not only aims to enhance tourists' experiences but also to elevate the quality of life for residents, aligning tourism development with sustainability and technological advancement objectives.
