Bogotá's consolidation as a business destination was recognized in the 27th version of the World Travel Awards 2020, where the city won in the category of Leading Business Tourism Destination in South America, surpassing Buenos Aires, Guayaquil, Quito, Lima, Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Medellin, which also represented the country in this category. The capital city also received other recognitions for its work in the tourism industry.

The World Travel Awards, known as the "Premios Mundiales del Turismo" since 1993, announced their winners in the South America version, according to the votes cast by travel industry professionals and the public. On this occasion, Bogotá won as the "Leading City in Business Tourism", an award that recognizes the work developed to turn the capital into an international reference in tourism.
"This is good news for the tourism sector and its progressive reactivation. It is an award for the joint work between the public and private sectors, and for spaces such as the city's Business Tourism Cluster. This announcement fills us with emotion, but also with much commitment to the city," said Karol Fajardo Mariño, director of the IDT.
The country's capital was also recognized as a leader in South America, in other categories:

Business tourism is a segment that moves strongly in the city. According to data from the Tourism Study (MICE), conducted by the Tourism Observatory of the IDT, Bogotá received in 2019 1,185,853 tourists related to business, of which 988,744 were of national origin and 197,109 international. 
In terms of the origin of these tourists, the United States, Spain, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru represent 57.7% of the total demand of this type of travelers. For the national case, Cundinamarca, Antioquia, Valle del Cauca, Meta and Santander added up to 60.7% of the total flow of business tourists in the city.
