Bogotá's Mayor, Claudia López, was honored with the 'Legendary Woman' award, presented by the Women Economic Forum for her leadership and efforts in narrowing gender gaps.

The prestigious recognition was given to her by Ouided Bouchamaoui, the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, in recognition of her distinctive, inspiring, and innovative voice and vision, which are forging a new narrative capable of inspiring and influencing more conscious and empowered leadership.

Upon receiving the award, Mayor López highlighted the advancements made in political empowerment, education, and economic autonomy for women. She emphasized the significance of having a gender-inclusive approach within institutions and policies.

"This recognition is a great honor and further commits me to continue working for the women of not only Bogotá but also Colombia. I am privileged to be the first female Mayor of Bogotá, the first diverse woman elected by popular vote, and I carried on my shoulders the responsibility of honoring the struggles and contributions of millions of women throughout Bogotá's history," stated the Mayor.

In this tweet, when Claudia López, the Mayor of Bogotá, was awarded with the 'Legendary Woman' recognition:

Mayor López proudly declared, "Today I can say with immense pride that we have fully complied and gone beyond our commitment to inclusivity for women. Back in 2019, we made a pact with the women of Bogotá, aiming, for instance, to strengthen the entire system of addressing and preventing gender-based violence against women."

Regarding this recognition, Karen Brugés, the Director of the Mujeres Violeta (Violet Women) Foundation and President of WEF Colombia, remarked:

"We present this award to Claudia López as a legendary woman. This is the highest honor granted by WEF, and today it is awarded to the Mayor of Bogotá for her outstanding efforts in promoting women's growth and narrowing gender gaps."

Notable past recipients of this prestigious award include Rigoberta Menchú, Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 1992, and Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States.

The Women Economic Forum's fourth edition, held in 2023 at the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, celebrates women who stand out for their impact and influence. This award represents the highest recognition granted to women who are making a significant difference in their respective fields.
