Bogotá received a LATAM Smart city Award during its 2020 version, for the leadership and commitment it had as a city in its response to COVID-19.

The 202 LATAM Smart City Awards, given by the Smart City Expo LATAM Congress,  recognized the initiatives that organizations and governments developed in the face of challenges imposed by the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regarding this recognition, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López pointed out that, “It was Bogotá that led a simulation of what it would be like to face a quarantine for several weeks; That decision, made in conjunction with other mayors and governors of the country, soon led the national government to adopt the same policy ”.

This recognition highlighted the early response that the district administration had regarding the mobility challenges posed by the pandemic through the HPS strategies (Handwashing every three hours, Proper use of a mask and Separate yourself) and Wings of distance, a pedagogical mechanism that, through the figures of hummingbirds, an emblematic bird in the city, that outstretched their wings, invited citizens to separate by a distance of two wings to guarantee social distancing.
