Bogotá has been awarded the International Special Award in the 3rd edition of the International Mobility Awards in Madrid, Spain, for being the Latin American city driving sustainable mobility the most.

The organization of the contest stated that: "based on data and projects, we see that Bogotá is leading electric mobility in Latin America, promoting the use of bicycles and an integrated public transportation system accessible and adapted to the needs, all through its Mobility Plan."

The ceremony was held at La Nave, the most important innovation center of the City Council of Madrid, in the presence of institutional representatives, jury members, representatives of the winners, as well as organizations that are part of the Companies for Sustainable Mobility Platform.

The Secretary of Mobility, Deyanira Ávila, expressed her gratitude for this important recognition for the city and highlighted achievements in the implementation of the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Plan, such as the electric fleet in the Integrated Transport System that already has 1,485 buses, becoming the second largest in the world.

Along with the Shared Bike System, which has recorded over 420,000 trips in just 6 months of operation, Bogotá has also become a global reference in the use of bicycles, not just for recreational purposes, but as a means of transportation. This is due to the city having the largest network of bike lanes in Latin America, with a total of 600 kilometers and 880,000 daily bike trips.

"We strive continuously to encourage the use and enjoyment of sustainable means of transportation, for a greener, more integrated, and more accessible Bogotá," said Secretary of Mobility, Deyanira Ávila.

Here are the statements of the Secretary of Mobility, Deyanira Ávila, about this important news for the city:

At the closing ceremony, Sara Aagesen, Secretary of State for Energy at the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, highlighted the importance of the International Mobility Awards because 'knowing good practices and success stories, and recognizing them, is essential to inspire others and, together, achieve the goals set in mobility.'

Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that the members of the Sustainable Mobility Companies Platform nominated Bogotá for the International Award, which is one of the two special categories. For the other categories, interested entities or companies must submit their applications in advance. More information is available at www.movilidadsostenible.com.es.
