Bogotá has positioned itself as the seventh best city in Latin America in terms of urban intelligence and sustainability, according to the latest results of the Cities in Motion Index (ICIM) 2024, conducted by the IESE Business School in Spain. This study evaluates the development of 183 cities worldwide across various key dimensions and highlights the city's commitment to innovation and progress.
The ICIM, produced annually by the IESE Center for Globalization and Strategy under the direction of professors Pascual Berrone and Joan Enric Ricart, analyzes 114 indicators across nine key dimensions, ranging from human capital and social cohesion to technology and urban planning.

Alongside Bogotá, which holds the seventh position regionally, Medellín also appears in ninth place. The Colombian capital surpasses cities like Lima and Rio de Janeiro, consolidating its position as an emerging center of innovation and development in the region.
Among the dimensions evaluated, Bogotá achieves its highest scores in areas of international projection, human capital, and economic performance, while facing significant challenges in urban planning, transportation, and urban cohesion.
Topping this global ranking are cities like London, New York, and Paris. Regionally, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, and Montevideo lead the pack. However, the presence of Latin American cities in the highest global rankings is limited.
According to the study, there are many opportunities for improvement in the performance of Latin American cities. This is due to the metropolises facing increasing global challenges, common to most of them. These challenges have been intensified by the international crisis caused by armed conflicts, which directly affect Latin American countries and deepen pre-existing problems.
Bogotá's positioning in the region underscores the advances made in connectivity, technological innovation, urban development, and other areas valued in the assessment. It is also a stimulus to continue moving towards a more innovative, sustainable, and inclusive future.
