With a series of bilateral meetings in which key issues for the future of Bogotá were addressed, Mayor Claudia López's agenda in the United States began. Mayor López’s activities take place as part of the ninth edition of the Summit of the Americas.

The Mayor, Claudia López, met with the director of the Inter-American Dialogue, Rebecca Bill Chávez, in a meeting in which the conversation revolved around issues related to migration and economic development.

The president also held a meeting with the mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, with whom she exchanged experiences on socioeconomic inclusion for young women, and ethnic minorities, as well as sustainability and climate action– topics in which both mayors have shown special interest –.

Mayor Garcetti commented that "collaboration between cities is the key to solving global problems" while emphasizing that "Bogotá and Los Angeles have grown together hand in hand to respond to the challenges of inclusion and climate action."

"I am very happy to welcome Mayor López to Los Angeles for the Summit of the Americas" -added Garcetti- "our cities have shared challenges and priorities, from the fight against climate change to the promotion of gender equality. I am grateful for this opportunity for us to learn from each other as we move forward in building a better, healthier, and more equitable future."

These high-level meetings took place as a prelude to the 'Beyond the Summit' workshop, which will take place this Tuesday, June 7, and which will include the participation of the president of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), Sergio Díaz-Granados; the director of the Migration and Remittances Program of the Inter-American Dialogue, Manuel Orozco; and mayors of US cities such as San Diego and Denver, along with Latin American counterparts from cities such as Bogotá, Sao Bernardo (Brazil), San Salvador (El Salvador), and Timbiquí (Colombia).

This event will be attended by the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, as President Joe Biden's envoy. In this meeting – which will focus on the challenges and possibilities of regional cities regarding migration and adaptation to climate change –Mayor López will present the most important details in the discussion on climate action in the region.

"In the workshop, we will talk specifically about adaptation to climate change and responses to migration, issues in which Mayor López has stood out as a leader on the subject," explained the director of the Inter-American Dialogue.

The Mayor's participation in this and other major events as part of the Summit of the Americas is thanks to the invitation extended by the Inter-American Dialogue, an alliance between Latin American and Caribbean countries with the aim of promoting democratic governance, prosperity, and social equity in Latin America and the Caribbean.
