The Board of Directors of Metropolis, the global network that brings together the world's major cities, meets this Wednesday and Thursday in the Colombian capital, where international delegates will discuss issues related to urban planning, development, planning, the Metropolitan Region and mobility, among other topics.
This second international summit began following the conclusion of the XXIV Ibero-American Congress on Urban Development (CIDEU, as per the acronym in Spanish), where issues related to the policies of caring for people, democracy, and the planet were discussed. This second event puts Bogotá on center stage thanks to the excellent impression that the international guests have of it.
“Bogotá belongs to several networks of cities such as CIDEU, C40, UCLG, and Metropolis, which brings together larger-scale cities that with urban agglomerations so that they can share governance experiences. This meeting is a source of recognition for the residents of Bogotá, and the city’s capacity for innovation, its culture, its future city-region, and the extraordinary display of collective care that we displayed during the pandemic, among other aspects,” said Mayor Claudia López. .

The Metropolis Board of Directors will dedicate time to reviewing pronouncements and invitations to action in the face of the different challenges that local governments must face, such as emergencies related to climate, food, the economy, health, and forced migration, among others.
One of the central issues that the Metropolis delegates are interested in learning about from the host city is the consolidation of Bogotá-Region and the main mobility projects that are being developed as part of the scheme, among which are the Metro lines, the Regiotram, and the road corridors.
During the meeting, a high-level debate is between mayors and elected officials on the planning of metropolitan mobility that facilitates travel for the care of people is also planned.
Additionally, Mayor López plans to take the delegates on a tour of representative sites of some programs and projects in Ciudad Bolívar to inform them of the policies that her administration has been applying in social areas with an emphasis on the care system that, due to its success, will be replicated at the national level during the government of President-elect Gustavo Petro due to interest shown by Vice President Francia Márquez.
As part of the Metropolis working sessions, a political debate called “Cities in Motion: Metropolitan governance connecting people, mobility and care” took place. This space was dedicated to talking about the important role of metropolitan governance in the management and planning of mobility that takes care into account as one of the central elements as a central element.
