Under the theme of 'Cities that care: people, the planet, and democracy', Bogotá will present the main projects that are making the city a role model for local governments around the world, such as its Care System, various urban renewal initiatives, and the implementation of multimodal and sustainable transport systems, such as the First Metro Line and the Regiotram.
Bogotá was chosen as the venue due to its new roadmap with which it is inclusively ordering the city’s the urban and rural environments; promoting sustainable economic, social, and environmental development; and is improving residents’ quality of life.
Regarding the choice to make Bogotá the venue for this edition of the Congress, Mayor Claudia López expressed her gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the importance of promoting public policies from the perspective of care. "Bogotá is a city that is committed to care, greening, and innovation as axes of land use planning. As the host city for the CIDEU Congress, we are excited to welcome you and to share experiences and amplify this conversation with our Ibero-American sister cities," said Mayor López.
For her part, the general secretary of CIDEU, Laura Pérez, referring to this edition of the Congress, highlighted the importance of care as a central issue and talked about the work done by local government administrations.
"These last years marked by the COVID19 pandemic have shown the key role that municipalities play in defending the well-being of the most vulnerable citizens and the right of caregivers to greater public coverage," said the international official.
For almost 30 years, CIDEU has established itself as the network of Ibero-American cities, local governments, entities, and urban strategists that promote the transformation of cities through strategic urban planning.
