Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, Mireia Villar Forner and the global director of UN-Habitat, Maimunah Mohd Sharif visited several points in which the District has carried out sustainable urban development projects. Projects being carried out in the town of Ciudad Bolívar with the Centro Felicidad (CEFE). Tunal, the Manitas station and the Manitas Care Block facilities.
This tour took place on November 25, 2021 for the benefit of the global director of UN-Habitat, Maimunah Mohd Sharif. Her presence in the capital was a momentous occasion that marked the first visit by the head of this global organisation. The UN-Habitat has long been dedicated to reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty in cities around the world.
Upon seeing the benefits of the Care System for herself, Villar Forner had this to say, “The Care Blocks are not only infrastructure: they are a mission to offer care services to women in order to free them from the tasks they assume in pursuit of society and their families. The Care blocks give them the possibility of furthering their career or education.”
This was the first visit of the United Nations Resident Coordinator to that area of the city since she took office on July 19th, 2021. Alongside Director Mohd Sharif, their visit to the capital was organised by the Mayor’s Office for International Relations.
During her stay, the global director of UN-Habitat signed a Memorandum of Intent with Bogotá. By the end of the tour, coordinator Villar noted that “we have come to Ciudad Bolívar and we have seen an impressive exhibition on the infrastructure and several development projects that are being carried out in this area. An effort orchestrated by the Mayor's Office to directly improve the lives of the inhabitants of these depressed areas.”
Before serving as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Colombia, Mireia Villar Forner was in Uruguay, an international benchmark in the protection of women's rights. “There I had the opportunity to learn about the effort they make for care economies and we are pleased to see today that, in Bogotá, care is a vision that is taking shape in growth opportunities for them, their families, their children and also by generating economies around these issues.”
