Top Reasons Why Bogota Is Among the Top 10 Best Tourist Destinations in the World:

Gastronomy: Gastronomy plays a leading role in Bogota's tourism development, with approximately 7,500 restaurants, according to Fenalco's (National Federation of Traders) figures. It has become one of the must-experience activities and even a motivation for visiting the Colombian capital. Today, it is an integral part of the city's tourism offering, and the experience provided by gastronomic zones, restaurants, markets, bakeries, and cafes contributes significantly to the tourist spending of visitors, tourists, and residents alike.

Rich History and Culture: Bogota is a city steeped in history and culture. From pre-Columbian times to the present day, the Colombian capital has witnessed a wide range of events that have shaped its identity and made it unique in the world. Tourists can immerse themselves in these experiences by visiting the city's 63 museums, exploring over 60 tourist, cultural, and heritage attractions in La Candelaria, learning about the history of iconic neighborhoods in districts like Chapinero and Teusaquillo, or visiting foundational squares like Fontibón, Engativá, or Plaza de Bolívar.

Biodiversity: Bogota offers a significant range of nature-based tourism opportunities that are essential for biodiversity conservation. This includes its extensive 560-kilometer network of bike lanes, 5,000 urban parks, birdwatching experiences, and the wetland system. Visitors can enjoy adventurous experiences and find moments of disconnection in these natural settings, which offer both physical and mental benefits.

Community Tourism: The strengthening of rural tourism through the 28 initiatives promoted by the Bogota Tourism Institute (IDT) emphasizes the importance of the traditions and knowledge of our rural communities. This effort has allowed for the economic diversification of more than 70 families while bolstering their economic, social, and community environment in the districts of Usme, Ciudad Bolívar, and Suba Santa Fe.

According to data from Migración Colombia, between January and July of 2023, Bogota welcomed 979,555 foreign visitors who indicated that the capital would be their place of stay. This represents a 31% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Additionally, it was observed that March and July were the months with the highest number of foreigners in Bogota, with 149,818 and 163,819 visitors, respectively. Of the total foreign visitors who arrived in the city in July 2023, 68.3% did so for tourism purposes.

Furthermore, between January and November 2023, 13,484,033 passengers were transported through the Bogota Transport Terminal, showing a 23.0% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Furthermore, according to data from the Hotel and Tourism Association of Colombia (COTELCO), the hotel occupancy rate in Bogota accumulated for the period from January to October 2023 reached 65.15%. This represents an increase of 0.91 percentage points compared to the same period in 2022.

The selection of Bogota as one of the top 10 tourist destinations in the world is excellent news that will help attract more visitors to the Colombian capital. This, in turn, will lead to economic benefits for the city and the generation of employment opportunities.
