the Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, participated in the plenary session of the World Mayors Summit of the C40 Climate Leadership Group. Mayor López attends this meeting asregional vice-president of C40 and president of the C40 Global Youth and Mayors Forum.

The objective of the Mayor's participation in this summit is to share the progress of the Colombian capital in the climate and social equity agendas over the last three years. Additionally, she will be contributing to the global debate on inclusive climate action led by cities for a just and equitable transition.

"As mayors we must lead a frank, but empathic and concrete conversation, in order to agree on actions and distribute tasks that bring about real change," said the Mayor in the panel 'United in Action for a Fair and Inclusive Transition’. In this session, Mayor López called for joint action in response to the current climate change situation.

She invited public and private entities around the world to join together to respond to climate needs. Mayor López also recalled the importance of including the voices of women and young people to make decisive changes that support the environment.

“Young people, women, girls, and boys are the most affected by all these crises, but they are also the ones who have the energy and the real sense of urgency to be able to make these transformations. They teach us that through small habits with gender equality and with great vision that the here and now can really be transformed in the way we need it be”, explained Mayor López.

As part of the day at the C40 meeting, the Mayor also appeared before the media in the company of the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo; and the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, to talk about the concept of proximity cities.

There, Mayor López presented the Care Block model as a sign of Bogotá's commitment to becoming a city that offers essential facilities and services for citizens in a similar way to the '15-minute city' model, which is being implemented in Paris.

“In the case of Bogotá, this philosophy of proximity and of the green, sustainable, and community-centered city was focused on the Care Blocks, with which we are relieving, recognizing, reducing, and redistributing women’s overload of unpaid care work”, highlighted the Mayor.

During the session, Mayor López highlighted the District’s work in conjunction with projects such as the integrated transportation system under the projection of multimodal mobility and the Bogotá Care System that will ensure quality services for all citizens.

"[This is so that] any woman, girl, boy, adolescent or family in Bogotá, Colombia, can access care services with sustainable mobility, with a clean city and quality of life within 15 minutes of their home," said the Mayor.

Mayor López's agenda in Buenos Aires will continue tomorrow as part of the C40 World Summit with her participation in the 'Young Defenders, United in Action for Climate' forum, a space in which youths will be able to present their ideas and strategies to deal with climate change to local government leaders from around the world.
