Mayor Claudia López will be attending the eleventh edition of the World Urban Forum - WUF11 (World Urban Forum). This event is organized by UN-Habitat every two years and brings together national, regional, and local representatives of governments, academia, business, community leaders, and urban planners from around the world.

The World Urban Forum is the leading international meeting on urban development, whose central themes will be innovation, sustainability, and opportunities to transform cities for a better urban future.

Mayor López will participate in several events at the summit, where she will share the lessons learned by Bogotá during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the post-pandemic agenda, and the role of mayors as mobilizers of society's response to this type of emergency, with a view to making more resilient, green, healthy, and just urban spaces a reality.

In this tweet, Mayor Claudia López talks about her participation in the Global Parliament of Mayors Summit:

The President will also be a speaker at the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments, where she will highlight the role of cities and cooperation networks as vehicles for building peace, strengthening democracy, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

For its part, UN-Habitat extended its invitation to the Mayor to participate in a series of conversations held by the Women's Assembly and the Business Assembly to share Bogotá's experiences and perspectives on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.

Bogotá’s representative will also participate in the "Extraordinary Dialogue on Urban Crisis Response and Recovery," whose central purpose will be to explore the role and importance of local governments in providing quality assistance and services to the most vulnerable groups, such as the migrant population, and women and youth, through innovation and technology.

To conclude her participation in WUF11, the Mayor will attend the "Emerging Cities: Reorganizing territories around care" event, which aims to raise awareness of this concept as a guiding principle of urban planning that promotes the right to access the city, and is based on strategies aimed at caring for people, the planet, and democracy.

After her participation in the World Urban Forum, the Mayor will attend as a speaker at the Metropolis cities network event "Governing complex emergencies: The urban and regional response to COVID-19, the climate emergency and the social justice crisis", in which she will explain and share successful experiences related to care policies and response to the pandemic period with city and regional governments.

The next main point of this international agenda will be the opportunity to strengthen relations and cooperation ties with international partners who have shown interest in the various projects being implemented by the district administration.

Continuing the agenda in Sweden, the Mayor will be together with representatives of the Smart City Sweden and FossilFree Sweden initiatives, exchanging experiences on smart cities, sustainable mobility, and climate transition.

In Stockholm, Mayor López will receive the OnePlanet City Challenge (OPCC) prize, awarded to Bogotá by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in recognition of the Climate Action Plan implemented by the District.

Mayor López’s commitments will continue with a meeting with the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, to explore opportunities for collaboration in the areas of social policy, sustainable mobility, and gender focus, areas of special relevance as part of the axes of the care policies promoted by the District.

A bilateral agreement will be signed with the Regional Consortium of Regular Public Transport of Madrid (CRTM) in the Spanish capital to formalize technical cooperation to deepen knowledge on planning, management, and co-financing of mobility and transportation at the regional level.

The Mayor will also participate in the dialogue 'A GlobaLocal perspective for transformative solutions', with the participation of former President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, with whom she will discuss the experience of localizing SDGs in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Finally, Mayor López will meet with representatives of the Mouvement des Entreprises de France (MEDEF), which brings together the most important businesspeople in France, to whom she will present Bogotá’s infrastructure and sustainable mobility projects, with the aim of securing participation of high-level international companies in selection processes.

International Cooperation in numbers

As a result of cooperation with international organizations, Bogotá has received close to $224 billion in the last three years: $82 billion in 2020, $117 billion in 2021, and $25 billion in the first quarter of 2022.

Through the management carried out with multiple global actors and active participation in international meetings such as the World Urban Forum, where visions, progress, and successful experiences are shared, Bogotá is able to consolidate important alliances, exchanges, and cooperation that contribute to the city’s continuous and comprehensive development.
