On June 24, 2025, Bogotá Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán and Finland’s Ambassador to Colombia, Antti Kaski, signed a renewed Letter of Intent between the city and the Finnish government. The agreement aims to deepen existing cooperation and open new paths for collaboration in areas such as innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation.

“I’m very pleased to continue strengthening the ties between Bogotá and Finland,” said Mayor Galán, adding that this agreement reaffirms Bogotá’s vision as an open, modern, and global city—one that learns from international experiences and embraces innovation in public policy and citizen services.

This agreement marks a significant milestone in the strategic relationship between both parties, reaffirming their shared commitment to building a more globally connected Bogotá —open to the exchange of ideas and international cooperation. It also expands on the original Letter of Intent signed in 2022, aligning its focus areas with the priorities of the city’s current Development Plan, 'Bogotá Camina Segura'

“We believe this joint path will bring tangible benefits to our communities,” said Ambassador Kaski, who also noted that the agreement will support initiatives in education, civic culture, peace and reconciliation, gender equality, sustainability and climate action, public safety, and digital transformation.

Thanks to this continued collaboration, Bogotá has already achieved meaningful progress in key areas, including enhanced bilingual education through shared efforts, the adoption of best practices from Finland’s education system, and plans for a pilot implementation of an anti-bullying program. In the digital sphere, strategic discussions are underway to accelerate the transformation of the city’s public services.
