During 2021, Bogota will be a part of the Urban 20 Forum as an observer city. The forum is part of the preparatory process for the G20 Leaders Summit in October. The forum seeks to elevate urban matters through a joint position among city members, to be considered by the 20 heads of state of these important countries

Convened by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) network this relevant platform generates a space for discussion for cities to strengthen their political leadership role at the global level. The 2021 edition will address issues on climate action, specifically energy transition and the de-carbonization processes. Likewise, the role of culture and youth in the implementation of the 2030 agenda and the economic recovery process after the COVID-19 pandemic will be discussed.

The participation of the Colombian capital, as an observer city in this relevant Forum, next to cities part of the G20, is a recognition of the commitment of Bogotá through the New Social and Environmental Contract, and its commitment with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals , the New Urban Agenda and the Paris Agreement.

Bogotá's role as an observer city in the Urban 20 Forum, began today with the participation of the Deputy Director of International Projection, Andrea Laverde Quintero, at the Urban20 sherpa meeting. In this event cities began defining the priorities and the agenda that will be taken to the G20 Summit 2021, for consideration of the heads of state. This year the G20 will be hosted by Rome and Milan.

By participating in this type of events, Bogotá has access to global discussion spaces focused on climate change, sustainable development and the management of COVID-19. In this way we position the role of global south local governments to advance towards sustainable development.
