'Bogotá a Rural Destination', is the new initiative for residents and tourists to get to know the destination beyond the urban, taking advantage of the tourism offer developed by rural communities, which will enable visitors to live the daily life of those who live in rural areas through recreational experiences, and also enjoy the rural area that comprises 70% of the city's territory.

In 2020, the rural tourism strategy began to identify and integrate those initiatives that highlight and make visible the traditions, knowledge, and flavors of rural communities. This work allowed the creation of a portfolio of 16 tourism experiences, which are offered in five boroughs of Bogotá: Usme, Ciudad Bolivar, Suba, Chapinero, and Santa Fe.

Here, a video announcing the new initiative for rural tourism 'Bogota a Rural Destination':

This initiative promoted by the District Institute of Tourism - IDT (as per the acronym in Spanish), allowed 33 rural women, through the South - South Cooperation program, to be trained and strengthen their skills in marketing and customer service, among other aspects. Similarly, economic incentives totaling more than $130 million pesos were generated for rural initiatives through the Tourism Development Fund (FONDETUR, as per the acronym in Spanish).

For the director of the IDT, Andrés Clavijo, "Rural tourism becomes an economic diversification alternative for rural families. In addition to its social contribution, it also enables awareness raising of customs in Bogotá’s rural communities. Similarly, our tourism service providers can find new offers so that Bogotá residents and tourists continue to choose the 'Star Capital' as their destination of choice and thus continue with the economic recovery of the sector and the city".
