Mayor forges alliances in infrastructure, mobility and development in Spain

The Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, continued her world-wide agenda in Madrid and Barcelona between November 4th and 8th.

Mayor Claudia Lopez landed in Spain in the first week of November where she met with executives from the Spanish Investment and Export Agency (ICEX). Mayor Lopez attended the General Assembly of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI). From there, she met with her counterparts from Madrid, Sao Paulo, Lima and Montevideo, as well as with the former mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena for a roundtable discussion.

Next on the Mayor’s busy itinerary was a visit to the Center of the General Directorate of the Municipal Police of Madrid, from there, she sat down to speak with representatives of the Spanish Agency for International Development Co-operation (AECID), the United Cities and Local Governments Network (UCLG), the Ibero-American Center of Urban Strategic Development (CIDEU), and the World Association of the Great Metropolises.

To wrap things up, the mayor chaired the Board of Directors of the World Association of Large Metropolises as its upcoming president from June 2022 to December 2023.

Meetings with ICEX and UCCI

On November 4th, Mayor Claudia Lopez met with the Spanish Investment and Export Agency (ICEX) to outline the projects in Bogota that will soon be open to bidding processes to entrepreneurs and investors from the transport and construction sector. Projects that have started well and could prove to be of interest to Spanish companies in the medium and long-term.  

The mayor then attended the General Assembly of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI), of which Bogotá is a founding member. The purpose of which is to accept her new role as vice-president of the Council for Equality and Social Development. She will also appraise the projects that are being carried out under her supervision:

  • Tourism Governance System for Bogotá and its new Metropolitan area: A model for Latin América of the XXI century. Led by Bogotá in alliance with CDMX, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo and Panama City.

 

  • Models of Public Market Squares. Led by CDMX in alliance with Bogotá, Montevideo and Madrid.

 

  • Climate action, tools for a sustainable and collaborative recovery. Led by Buenos Aires in alliance with Bogotá and Barcelona.

 

Meeting with mayors and an audience with the King of Spain

Last Friday, November 5th, the mayor of the Colombian capital attended an audience with King Felipe VI of Spain at the Palacio de la Zarzuela. Mayor López joined the other mayors of Ibero-American cities to explore alternatives for joint work on culture, tourism, sustainable mobility, climate action, economic re-activation and a gender approach.

Finally, in Barcelona she participated in the XIX International Conference of the Catalan Table for Peace in Colombia, which took place last  Monday, November 8th. Mayor Lopez signed a memorandum of understanding with the mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau. From there, she participated in the Council of Administration of the World Association of the Great Metropolises.
