This Wednesday, the Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López Hernández, and the Secretary of Education, Edna Bonilla Sebá, gave the community of Bosa the College of the Bicycle, pioneer for being the first educational institution where the bicycle will be the centerpiece of the academic process of the students.

Its opening means the aperture of 1.080 new quotas for children and young people in this area, one of the most in demand for educational supply.

The Bike School will offer a unique day to students from pre-garden to grade 11. In addition, there will be an alliance with SENA for 400 apprentices to carry out their training processes in programs such as bike mechanics, patterning and clothing making, biomechanics, among others.

In the same way, students in grades 10 and 11 who wish, will advance their technical training together with the apprentices to graduate with double degrees, as highlighted during her intervention by the Mayor.

"SENA is a magnificent ally of competitiveness and is our main benchmark for strengthening technical and technological education in the country. Now, the entity has decided to change and expand its educational offer for the skills and labor demand required by the 21st century, for this reason the College of the Bicycle becomes for students and teachers an unreleased opportunity for professional development," said Mayor Claudia López.

What is the new Bike College like?

Within the school, the SENA will operate the Bike Center which has a technical area for the mechanics of the bike, composed of six specialized classrooms for theoretical class and two workshops for practice, warehouse, locker area, testing area, workshop for patterning, gymnasium, and laboratory of biomechanics and physiology.

The other blocks, which were completed in 2020, will have 10 early childhood classrooms, 10 elementary elementary school classrooms, eight secondary elementary classrooms, four media classrooms, library, multipurpose classroom, physics, chemistry and biology laboratories, language resource center, computer classrooms, technology classrooms, music workshop, arts and dance workshop, multiple classrooms, school kitchen, multiple courts and playground.

"This school is the result of a great effort to guarantee our students more and better learning spaces. Bosa is a space-deficit locality, which is why we work every day to increase the educational supply. Today we handed over the College of Bicycle to the community, a few months ago we delivered the headquarters of early childhood Villas del Progreso and soon we will deliver the new schools "Laurel de Cera y Parques de Bogotá"", said Edna Bonilla Sebá, Secretary of Education.

It should be noted that the administration of Mayor Claudia López allocated 1.6 billion pesos for educational infrastructure, the highest budget in history and with which 35 new schools or refunds will be delivered at the end of the four-year period. In 2020 four of these works were completed, among which is the College of the Bicycle, and this year's goal is to deliver 11 more.

Currently there are 18 construction fronts under construction, most of which are scheduled to be completed by 2021 and are in Bosa, Usme, Ciudad Bolívar, Kennedy, Engativá, Antonio Nariño, San Cristóbal, Tunjuelito, Fontibón and La Candelaria.

This will be the pedagogical proposal

As the bicycle will be the centerpiece of the pedagogical process of students and apprentices, much of the educational offer will be oriented towards conducting workshops and research on the design, production, maintenance and evaluation of the processes that are deployed around this means of transport.

"The goal is to train in this educational institution about 240 trainees in graduate training and 9.000 in complementary training, especially in the locality of Bosa, Tunjuelito and Kennedy," said Carlos Mario Estrada, CEO of SENA.

In the same way, one of the objectives of the Secretary of Education is to achieve comprehensive training for environmentally responsible and aware children and young people that development must be sustainable. To do this, the College of the Bicycle will have four training lines:

- Sustainable mobility.

- Environmental sustainability.

- Healthy lifestyle habits.

- Citizen competitions.

On the other hand, at the beginning of the year the natural gas company Vanti, delivered kits of school supplies to the students at the College of Bicycle, who are part of the 10.000 who will donate to children and young people with the highest poverty rate in Bogotá and those who are part of the Program 'Aulas Hospitalarias'.

"We cannot allow the lack of basic tools to become a reason why children will not be able to study. In this way, Vanti is committed to education, offering useful tools that help the integral training of Bogotá students," said Rodolfo Anaya, president of the company.
