The news portal ElTiempo.com reviewed the nomination of Mayor Claudia Lopez in the top 100 of the most influential Latinos in climate action.
This annual ranking is published by the environmental organization Sachamama and is made with the support of different entities committed to mitigate the climate crisis such as WWF, The World Environment Center, the Ocean Conservancy and the Global Footprint Network. The list highlights people for their commitment in areas of climate activism, communications, environmental rights and sustainable policies.
The recognition of the leadership of Bogotá's Mayor, Claudia López, is not limited exclusively to the commitment to a new social and environmental contract for the city, but also to her role at the international level as Regional Vice President of the Steering Committee of C40, the climate leadership group of cities, where she has been implementing, together with Buenos Aires, a joint action plan to involve more cities in the region in climate action, strengthening Bogotá's position as a leader in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.
ElTiempo.com pointed out that these nominations are part of the Planet B Latino Summit, the largest gathering of influential Latinos at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2021. A meeting designed to exert global pressure towards the implementation of the Paris agreement and the sustainable development objectives of the 2030 agenda.
