This annual study by OAG, a leading global aviation intelligence source, ranks the world’s most connected airports based on the number of scheduled international connections within a single day, considering both direct flights and those with brief connection times. The analysis showcases the airports' capability to facilitate a high volume of global connections, underscoring their role in the global air transport network.

El Dorado offers flights to 97 international destinations, making it a connectivity cornerstone between North and South America. Colombian airline Avianca plays a crucial role in the efficiency of these operations, connecting millions of passengers worldwide. As of September 2024, it is also Latin America's busiest airport by capacity, with 13,989 international connections to 97 destinations.

This achievement has a direct impact on tourism, as air connectivity is a key factor in attracting international travelers. Bogotá, as a gateway to Latin America, greatly benefits by establishing itself as a transport hub that facilitates access for tourists from Europe, North America, and other regions. This position strengthens the local tourism industry, boosts economic development, and solidifies Bogotá as a key destination in the region.

Methodology

The OAG Megahubs Index is based on data from the 100 largest airports and the 100 largest international airports in the world, calculated based on the total number of seats scheduled over a full year (from September 2023 to August 2024). The data was collected on the busiest day in global aviation, August 2, 2024. The analysis focuses on the number of possible flight connections within a six-hour window, considering both incoming and outgoing international flights. This index measures airports' capacity to offer efficient and high-quality global connections.
