The Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López presented the measures that will regulate the new reality of the city from September 1st.

The Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López presented the measures that will regulate the new reality of the city from September 1st. During this period the people will gradually resume their social life, reopen their businesses, return to their workplaces and restart classes.

 

In this sense Mayor López stated:

 

We must learn to socialize, work and study taking care of our health and protecting others. Progressively, we will construct this new normality to preserve lives but also to promote mental health among everyone.’’

 

According to the Mayor´s Office, the economic reactivation will operate under shifts and schedules for activities grouped in different categories. All these measures were consulted and authorized by the Ministry of Health.

 

 

Schedule for Bogotá`s new normality

 

  •  Monday to Sunday: Essential activities will work during these days with no particular restrictions. 
  •  Monday to Saturday: Construction, offices and services will operate after 10 a.m. However, every Thursday these sectors must reduce their activities and most of their employees must do teleworking.
  • Monday to Thursday: All commercial activities that do not require contact with customers can function during this period. Manufacturing and wholesaling can operate after 10 a.m. 
  • At night, starting at 7 p.m. the ‘Bogotá Despierta’ pilot project might provide authorization for the reopening of some shops.
  • Thursday to Sunday: Retail trade activities and services that require public contact such as restaurants, laundries, hairdressers will function during these days. Cultural and recreational outdoor activities such as bike lanes, parks and trails will also be resumed.

 

Swimming pools, casinos, theatres, cinemas, theme parks, bars, discotheques, and churches will not be able to function indoors.

Regulation of occupancy rates

 

As part of the new reality strategy, a maximum occupancy rate was established for each sector to safely operate.

 

The restaurants will be able to operate with 25% of their capacity indoors and under the monitoring of the Bogotá a ‘Cielo Abierto’ (open sky) strategy.

 

The El Dorado Airport will reestablish 14 air routes from September 1st. and it can only operate under 12% of its passenger capacity.

 

Hotels should work under 35% occupancy rate.

 

Regarding the TransMilenio bus system operation, the Mayor reported that the 35% occupancy limit is being lifted. It is estimated that in the new reality the system will have an average occupancy of 50%.

 

At schools, only 20% of the student body and 35% of the staff could attend to onsite activities.
