Mayor Claudia López met today, Thursday, March 4th , with the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Colombia Nikolay Tavdumadze. The objective of the meeting was to welcome the new ambassador; celebrate more than 85 years of relations between the two governments; and explore partnerships on health, culture and education.
At the meeting, which was also attended by Alejandro Gómez López, District Health Secretary, the Mayor highlighted the Russian government's efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically the development and production of the Sputnik V vaccine.

On this issue, Mayor López pointed out that, "Science and data-based decisions are the best tools we have as governments to overcome the pandemic. That is why the efforts of countries like Russia, that have achieved the development of vaccines like Sputnik V, should be recognized and celebrated". The Russian ambassador replied, "In the face of a global threat such as COVID-19, the response must be based on international cooperation".
At the meeting, the Bogota administration's interest in working with Russia to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of culture and education was also highlighted. In particular, the possibility of a dual Colombian-Russian year is being explored, which will allow the exchange and disclosure of Russian cultural manifestations in Bogotá.
This meeting served to explore possible strategic alliances between Russia and Bogota, learn about best experiences in the management of the pandemic, and explore partnerships for cultural reactivation of the city.
