As part of the Network of Touristic Cities and Regions of Colombia, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Bogotá Mayor's Office, the Bogotá Tourism Institute (IDT), and the Secretary of Tourism and Culture of the Amazonas Government. This agreement aims to design joint strategies for promoting both destinations.

This tool defines the roadmap for collaboration with the Amazon to develop integrated efforts that promote multi-destination travel, with Bogotá as the starting point.

Andrés Santamaría, the director of Bogotá Tourism, highlighted the great offerings that complement us, noting that Amazon's air connectivity goes through Bogotá.

“We aim to boost the regions from Bogotá, and in the case of the Amazon, to highlight its incredible biodiversity. Tourists wanting to visit the Amazon must travel via Bogotá, hence strengthening the regions bolsters the tourism of the nation’s capital,” Santamaría explained.

“Tourism is a transformative tool that changes lives and energizes the economy; therefore, we strive to make Bogotá a global powerhouse, but we know this is achieved through collective effort,” added the IDT Director.

Bogotá’s Mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, traveled to Paris (France) at the invitation of his counterpart, Mayor Anne Hidalgo, and Bloomberg Associates, to speak at the ‘International conference on homelessness'. There, he aimed to learn firsthand about successful strategies and to secure technical support in areas such as solid waste management, infrastructure construction, digital transformation, food supply, and decontamination.

Galán participated in the opening of this international event with the goal of discussing strategies and proposing solutions to combat homelessness, a social phenomenon affecting people who lack a permanent residence, often due to a sudden and traumatic disruption of their economic, familial, and social ties, forcing them to live on the streets or in temporary housing services like shelters.

"Cities are often the first point of contact for migrants and require more support both nationally and internationally. It is crucial that cities have a voice in migration policies to provide the best possible care to those seeking a new home," stated the Mayor of Bogotá on his X account.

During the meeting among local leaders and specialized organizations, the Mayor of Bogotá highlighted the common challenges cities face in addressing the growing number of homeless people, amidst rising migration and policies implemented at local, national, and international levels.

This is why Galán discussed the Venezuelan migration phenomenon and the social, cultural, and economic integration processes led by Bogotá. "Cities are often the first point of contact for migrants and need more support both nationally and internationally," he added.

In Paris, the Mayor also conducted bilateral meetings with Parisian public entities and French companies to reference successful practices in integrated and sustainable transportation, water management, waste management, and energy services.

“This is part of what we are doing, to learn about different systems and adopt what may work for Bogotá and thus propose how to change the model,” said Mayor Galán during his tour of SYTCOM, the Parisian agency managing metropolitan domestic waste; a public company leading in Europe in the treatment and recovery of domestic waste for 6 million residents of the French capital and its suburbs.

“These were very productive dialogues to secure technical support for central issues for the future of our city, such as water management and supply, circular economy, the creation of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Campus, and urban developments to create safer, more livable, and sustainable neighborhoods for citizens,” the Mayor emphasized at the end of the meetings with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the lessons learned in Cape Town and how these lessons can be applied to improve water supply in Bogotá.

 “Our strategy aims to diversify water sources, ensuring that our current water sources will be sufficient for the long term and thus prevent the recurrence of the rationing issues we are currently experiencing,” stated Mayor Galán on his X account.

During the meeting, and drawing on Mike Webster’s experience managing the water crisis in South Africa, a water security strategy for Bogotá was discussed. An action plan was reviewed to ensure the availability of potable water in the medium and long term, and the potential for establishing a multi-actor platform for the validation of the water security strategy was examined.

The meeting included participation from Natasha Avendaño, General Manager of the EAAB; Vanessa Velasco, Secretary of Habitat; Redy López, Undersecretary of Planning and Policy at the Secretary of Habitat; Jean-Martin Brault, Senior Specialist at the World Bank; and Homero Paltán, Senior Water Resources Management Specialist at the World Bank.

This successful meeting allowed for a discussion of the lessons learned in Cape Town and an exploration of how these lessons can be applied in Bogotá to enhance water supply.

En 2023 el Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) de Bogotá creció 0,6 %, con respecto al año 2022, de acuerdo con la publicación del Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE) y la Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico (SDDE). Si bien la ciudad inició el 2023 con una tasa de crecimiento anual del 3,2 % en el primer trimestre, durante el resto del año, la ciudad y el país registraron una ralentización en la tasa de crecimiento.

En el informe se detalla que durante 2023 nueve de las doce actividades económicas registraron comportamiento positivo en Bogotá. Las actividades financieras y de segurostuvieron un crecimiento de 7,8 %, un punto porcentual menos que el crecimiento del país, el cual fue de 7,9 %.

La segunda actividad con mayor tasa de crecimiento fue administración pública, defensa, educación y salud, con 3,4 % (en el país esta tasa fue de 3,9 %), la cual aumentó debido a la mayor demanda de servicios de seguridad, aumento en la prestación de servicios de investigación, así como en los servicios de urgencias, hospitalización, y cirugías, entre otros.

En tercer lugar, se ubicaron las actividades artísticas, de entretenimiento y recreación con un crecimiento de 6,8 % explicado por un incremento en la oferta de conciertos, eventos musicales, eventos deportivos, congresos y convenciones. En el país, estas actividades presentaron un crecimiento de 7,0 %.

Entre las actividades que contribuyeron de manera negativa al crecimiento económico de la ciudad en 2023, se encuentra el comercio al por mayor y al por menor, reparación de vehículos; transporte y almacenamiento; y alojamiento y servicios de comida la cual decreció 2,5 %, contribuyendo de manera negativa al valor agregado de la ciudad con -0,7 p.p. (preliminar provisional).

Este decrecimiento se explicó por las caídas en las ventas de vehículos y así como por una contracción en transporte y almacenamiento. En el país, esta actividad también presentó una tasa negativa de -2,8 %.

Por otro lado, la industria manufacturera, decreció 4,2 % entre 2022 y 2023, fue la segunda actividad que más afectó el comportamiento de la ciudad. Cinco de las divisiones que componen la industria manufacturera decrecieron, destacándose la caída de 12,5 % en fabricación de productos textiles, prendas de vestir, cueros y calzado. Seguido por fabricación de sustancias químicas básicas con -8,5 %, que cayó por la disminución en la elaboración de productos farmacéuticos y menor demanda del sector institucional.

Construcción ocupó el tercer puesto con un decrecimiento anual del valor agregado de 8,5 %. Obras civiles decreció 15,0 %, le siguieron las actividades especializadas para la construcción de edificaciones y obras de ingeniería civil con un decrecimiento anual de 17,9 % y construcción de edificaciones residenciales y no residenciales con una caída de 0,6 %.

Durante el cuarto trimestre de 2023 (pr) , el PIB de Bogotá creció en su serie original 0,7 % respecto al cuarto trimestre de 2022 (p). La ciudad creció 0,4 p.p. por encima de la tasa de crecimiento del país que para el cuarto trimestre fue de 0,3 %.

En este periodo nueve de las doce actividades económicas registraron comportamiento positivo en la capital: construcción, actividades financieras y de seguros, administración pública, defensa, educación y salud fueron las actividades con mejor desempeño.
